This logo is a topic of much debate; we asked our Twitter friends and the majority of them thought it was the Sesqui Expo logo to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. Rob’s positive that the Sesqui had a different logo. One thing that isn’t debateable is that this logo makes for a freakin sweet t-shirt.

The 1990 Logo was designed by myself and Maori sculptor Fred Graham for the 1990 Sesqui Centennial Commission and was copyrighted to that organization. It was reproduced on coinage, banknotes and many hundreds of other official souvenirs of the period. The imagery is recorded at Te Papa and other government organizations of record. I'm not sure whether the copyright is still valid as it's now a piece of historical imagery.
