PUKEKO MENS HOOD
The purple swamphen is a New Zealand native, it's blue and red complexion often seen loitering in and around swamplands for scraps of food or crumbs in chippy packets. For the longest time I thought the bird flightless until on one occasion I spied one of these beasts giving it a crack. Like a teenage boy fumbling about on his first day of his building apprenticeship; it's work belt sitting uncomfortably and shiny hammer looking out of place, it flapped it's wings and clumsily flapped in to action - slowly gaining a steady course until it was time to land whereby it tumbled to the floor in a very spectacular fashion. Really quiet something.
