WE’RE RAISING OUR PRICES
Why? In short, because we need to*
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
Well – providing you still wish to purchase from us:
-
Our standard t-shirts (tees, v-necks, scoops, tee dresses and singlets) will now be $35 where they were $29.95
-
Free Shipping on all NZ orders over $100
-
The current 3 for $75 combo will now be 3 for $90
-
Blank Tees will now be $25. which is still a really great price.
-
‘Today’s Deals’ will still be $19.95 & $49.95 for the tees and jumpers respectively
-
Hoodies remain $89.95, as we felt any higher wasn’t reasonable
-
We’ll still have ‘clearance’ items if you think the rise is too big
WHEN?
Our prices will be changing online on Monday, so essentially this weekend becomes a sale of sorts for those of you that look at the bright side of things (given that they go permanently up on Monday).
*LONG VERSION
It’s not something we take lightly; we always do our best to produce our products at affordable prices, and while it’s only a small increase we do want you guys to know why we’re increasing the price – and we hope that you still like us and buy our products.
Over the last few years, several costs have increased to a point where we have to make a small change in the price of our products. The most noteworthy include the rising price of cotton, the increase in GST, an increase in our freight costs (brought about by petrol prices), and importing costs. While we’ve tried our best to absorb all of these costs (and have done over the last few years without changing the price), we’ve come to the point where a slight increase in price has to happen.
Thanks for (hopefully) understanding, and if you have any further questions or suggestions, leave a comment, or just send me an email and we’ll talk it out.

So its 2011 now, February already in fact, and this is the first blog post of the year. Sorry about that – we’ve been out and about enjoying the sun and other things of that nature. Actually, most of us were back at work on the 5th of Jan, so we have been working away and planning this year’s bidness.
We also had our ‘annual general meeting’ a few weeks back. I hesitate to use the term ‘annual general meeting’ (or AGM for those in to the whole brevity thing) – it sounds awfully proper and serious, and it is to an extent I guess, but for the most part we try to keep it light and easy. We always steer clear of the deep shit; keep it shallow otherwise you run the risk of drowning in the deep emotions. So we went to Butterfly Creek this year and holed ourselves up in the conference room for the better part of 6 or 7 hours talking about the t-shirt. We basically just go over what we did last year; what was good, what we did badly, what we want to do in the coming year, and set a few goals and targets. It’s a productive day, and hopefully you’ll be happy with the changes we’re making.
A few people have been asking about why they're not getting the daily emails any longer, in stark contrast to the days of the daily emails when we’d receive numerous replies asking how to unsubscribe from the emails. Bizarrely – it’s the ‘unsubscribe’ button at the bottom of the emails – I always took great joy in pointing out that little humdinger. Basically though, the daily emails have in fact stopped, and they’ve stopped for what we deem to be pretty good reasons. The main one being GrabOneTee.co.nz.
As many of you will be aware, we began working with GrabOneTee late last year on this project, and we’re pretty happy with how it’s going. At this stage, the Mr Vintage t-shirt of the day is essentially being run through GrabOneTee. There will be developments on this site with regards to using other designers and promoting their works, but at this stage it’s largely our own designs. So if you’re really missing the emails, sign up to the GrabOneTee emails, they’re much more prompt than ours ever were.
Another reason is that we really wanted more time to work on our designs, poor little Joe (who rather ironically stand at over 6”2) has been complaining that his index finger is getting sore from drawing too fast – so we thought we’d be good about it and let him work on designs over a larger period of time. It means we get more time to work on designs, and it means you get better t-shirts at the end of the day. It’s a win-win.
Don’t get worried but, you’ll still get emails – just not everyday. Every month we’ll release a new ‘series’ – this month’s was the ‘NZ Summer Series’ – as well as a ‘Charitee’ and we’ll still be running a ‘Deal of the Day’ which is an existing item that is back in stock and at a reduced $19.95.
So yeah, word. Check out the Summer Series, it won’t be round for too much longer.

The other day we ran an 'Easter-Tee' Hunt on Twitter, posting goodie bags with tee vouchers around Auckland City.. It was a roaring success, but I'll write a little more on that tomorrow. For now though, I'll leave you with this delightful fellow that made me smile when he sent in his victorious picture. He looks bloody stoked. Good work my man.

We have a new addition to the Mr Vintage family, www.parinto.com This morning at around 9.35am (Sandard GMT +12) we welcomed www.parinto.com in to the world. It’s a healthy, functional website, full of t-shirt designs ready to be shipped to your doorstep. We’ve been trying for a while now; but it’s always a pretty tough road building a website, and we’ve kept it on the down low to avoid any potential disappointments, but it’s finally here.
Baby analogies aside, we’re really happy to be announcing the launch of Parinto, and we’d love for all of you to check it out if you’ve got a spare couple of minutes over your lunch break. I can personally guarantee it’ll be more interesting than anything on facebook or twitter today - unless the Parinto news is on facebook or twitter I guess. LINK.
It’s an idea we’ve had for a while; we’ve always wanted to do something that was a little different to Mr Vintage – branching away from the Kiwiana designs – something a little more art-focused. We wanted to create an Internationally accessible brand, work with Internationally acclaimed artists, and create a community for creative’s to contribute and share their passions.
It wasn’t till we met Auckland based designer Stephen Richardson that we realised we could work together; combining our resources, marketing, experience, creativity, and most importantly vision, to create a site that would not only act as an online store, but a creative hub for our favourite International artists, designers, illustrators, and photographers to showcase their latest works. Fronting the Parinto brand will be Stephen Richardson, you may’ve heard of his label; Richard…son. Richard…son won Metro Magazine’s “Best t-shirt” award in 2007, so he’s kind of a big deal in his own right. He’s a well-travelled dude, and as well as featuring his own designs, he’s handpicked a roster of his favourite designers, illustrators, photographers, and artists to design t-shirts for Parinto. These include Tank Girl comic book legends Alan Martin and Rufus Dayglo, fine artist Max Gimblett, Madrid based illustrator Blanca Gómez, original Memphis Design member Nathalie Du Pasquier, the Cut Collective, and fashion stylist and blogger Adam Bryce amongst others.
You should sign up to the newsletter as well, that’d be a real smart move on your behalf; I tell thee. www.parinto.com Make sure you drop by, there’s a lot more to do than just shop; with a section devoted to keeping you up to date with the contributors involved, read interviews with them, learn about their latest exhibitions, as well as exclusive opportunities to win original pieces by the artists.
If you've got any press enquiries, please contact stephen@parinto.com

I remember in my youth St. Patrick’s Day was an occasion that I always looked forward to. At one party, we went to a friend’s flat and threw her chairs off her deck; it was awesome. My friend Ben ended up marrying her flatmate as well, crazy.
Another St. Patrick’s Day we went to town, not like Pony club with Brooke-Howard-Hyphenate or anything, just to some bars that you don’t need a girl with you or pointy shoes on to get into. At the end of the night we had to pull over on Hillsborough Rd and I helped old mate Will (Bens brother) spew on the side of the road. Ben drove past and waved, which was nice of him.
This year was fun, but in a much different way.
We had Social Media Fun. Man, I’m 25 years old this year and for the first time I totally feel 25. Back to the Social Media fun, we had a whole bunch of St. Paddys tees leftover. We needed to get rid of the tees quickly, as we were finishing at 3pm to go to the pub; I needed to decide what to do for dinner, and we wanted to have a few drinks before we left. We thought we’d get our friends on twitter and facebook to help us out.
We first asked them to bring a potato (preferably waxy) to the shop, in return for a free St. Paddys tee – Good return. Then we asked them to bring down some Guinness, well, any alcohol really – Success. We then asked them to bring down a scoop of hot chips for a t-shirt – Great Success!
In the end we got:
4 Waxy Potatoes
8 bottles of Guinness
12 Cans of Guinness
6 Cans of Steinlager
2 Bottles of Heineken
2 Bottles of Carlsberg
1 Bottle of Wine
1 Bottle of Opal Nera
Two Baileys n Cream shots
AND 1 Scoop of Hot Chips!
RESULT.
After a few drinks we went down to the Dogs Bollix for some loud Irish Music and a few more drinks. I left at about 5pm, without having a drink, with the other guys. I then went home, had some dinner with my lover, went home and was in bed by 9.30pm. I later received a txt that my name was on the door for the ‘Dead Weather’ gig (Jack White’s band) at the Powerstation. But I was already in bed. On St. Patrick’s Day. I’m 24 years old. And washed up.

We thought it’d be cool to do a few new things around the place this year. To keep things fresh. So we did a bit of math. Chewed our pencils. Crunched some numbers. Scratched our heads. Carried a few two’s. Worked out that we could actually make the t-shirt of the day $19.95.
We all thought it’d be a good idea. So we just went right ahead and did it. YUS! NOW the t-shirt of the day is $19.95
THAT’S AWESOME. Tell all your friends about me. Like Batman.
at just $19.95 even this kid can now cover up.

I’m super shit at Christmas. Like shopping and stuff I mean. Actually I’m pretty useless at Christmas Day come to think of it – the last two years I’ve had to take a little break during family Christmas and nip off to bed and take a mini sleep.
Traditionally it’s taken a frantic blast of late night shopping. Late night Christmas mall shopping is the worst: rushed, stressed, and congested traffic. I’m not coping well - flustered, sweaty, hungry, shop assistants are asking me if I need help – which I do, but clearly not the type of help they can give me. Spread the Christmas Love.
There's the goodie sacks.
I don’t want you to experience what I experienced... So we’re going to make your Christmas Shopping even easier by keeping the store open till 9pm tonight, and make it even cooler by giving away some gear. TONIGHT ONLY - come in to the showroom after 7pm and the first three customers who ask “CAN I HAVE SACK?” will get a SANTA SACK of all sorts of goodies for your troubles.
There's my face.

FACEBOOK. Some think it’s just a useless tool only good for looking at people’s photos and having a moan about work. Not us. well not entirely. we do look at photos. big time. But the main reason we get amongst it at work is to interact with our customers. And the other day we asked our fan base to decide how we could giveaway our My Little Pony toys that we’d been given to use as giveaways. Sonya came up with this great idea of giving them to the Auckland City Mission. She got an onion soup for her troubles. So. We’re giving the City Mission a whole box of t-shirts, as well as the My Little Pony toys. Which makes us feel good. AND… It got us thinking. We should do more for the City Mission. They’re good people and they help kids who don’t get awesome toys for Christmas. So. Over the next week we want you guys to come in and give us your old toys. Here’s how it’ll go down.
-
Dig up your old toys that are still in that old box.
-
Think about how stoked the little kids that get them will be.
-
Have one last little emotional playtime with them.
-
Come in to the Mr Vintage shop (directions here)
-
Give us your toys (not too old just vintage cool).
-
Chose whatever t-shirt you want.
-
It’s yours for only $20.
-
Go home and feel good about yourself.
-
Put your new t-shirt on and look good while you’re feeling good.
-
We’ll be offering this discount for 1 week only, so you’ve only got the week of 30th Nov – 4th of Dec to get amongst it. SO GET AMONGST IT.

We’re ALWAYS LISTENING to what you, our customers, are saying. Whether it’s through facebook, twitter, enquiries through the website, or feedback in-store – we always take note and every now and then we sit down and see if there’s any logic in what your saying. And there is.
Here’s a bunch of things you lot always seem to ask for:
• Can I get this on a v-neck?
• Does this come in a kids tee?
• Do you have this design on a hoodie?
• The item I want is out of stock, when will you get it back?
• Can you call me when this is back in stock?
Good news. We splashed out and bought a SCREEN PRINTING MACHINE. The bad news was there was no voucher in the ‘Entertainment Book’ for a screen printer. What are the odds? Anyway, it means we can print way quicker, and offer you more variety. So over the coming months we’ll be offering more style options to you per design.
We’ve decided that SUMMER is on the way too, so singlets are on the way ladies. So too is the scoop neck, just in case you wanted to show off your sternum in the summer sun.
My sister had a BABY and my brothers’ baby is now a TODDLER, so we’re going to be doing more 1 piece baby suits and toddlers t-shirts very shortly otherwise I’m screwed for Christmas presents this year. Plus all the Mums from the yoga class next door are really demanding, so we kinda have to print some more.
BUT THE BIGGEST BIT OF NEWS is that the ‘design of the day’ will now only be available for 24hrs. Thereafter, the design will go to the ‘RETIERD DESIGNS’ section. There you can vote for the design to be re-printed, and when the design receives enough votes you’ll be emailed personally letting you know first that it’s back. It means you’re going to have to be way quicker and check the website daily… Actually, the best way would be to JOIN THE NEWSLETTER and then you get an email with the design of the day straight to your inbox.
We realise that some people will be unhappy about this, BUT
• It’ll cut down on out of stocks of other designs
• It’ll allow us to get your orders out faster
• It’ll mean some of your shirts will be limited edition collectors’ items
And NO, we can’t call you when it comes back in stock. It’s much easier than that. Simply go to the product page of the t-shirt you’re after and head down to the ‘live stock chart’. There, just choose the size you’re after and click the ‘notify me when available’ text and you’ll be emailed when it’s available. Easy as.
The world is changing. And so are we.

We got this email from Peter L*&^ard on Sunday.
Subject: idiot
From: peter l*&^ard
Enquiry date: 2009-09-13 18:35
your coments on tv are ignorent and shocking. im an aussi here in auckland running a buisness as kiwis are to stupid to. aussie are in control of most buisnesses in new zealand as you are ten years behind us. if you want to call australians lazy say it to there faces. the kiwis i have working for me are the worst people i have ever been in control off . you are an idiot and i will relay this back to your aussie opostion and make sure that it gets harder for you. this is part of the world is forgotten as you have nothing to offer the world.
He thinks we’re idiots. Here’s 12 reasons why we’re smarter than him.
12. We use Capital letters at the start of sentences as well as for names of countries and people.
11. ‘Coments’ has two m’s. Comments.
10. ‘Ignorent’ is spelt ignorant.
9. im. I'm. It's like saying I am. That's a good way to remember it.
8. There’s an ‘e’ on the end of ‘Aussi’
7. Business. B-u-s-i-n-e-s-s. Not that hard.
6. This is a comma “,”. Try it some time.
5. To and too. Different words.
4. Say it to their faces Peter, not 'there faces'.
3. Have you been in control off them? Have you? nah.
2. ‘Oposition’. You mean opposition mate.
1. Just consider revising that last sentence.
Oh, and Peter. Please don't "make sure that it gets harder" for us. Please. Anything but that.

Following yesterdays tiff with those dudes in Australia, we’re totally stoked with the support we’ve recieved from our loyal followers. You guys are wicked awesome. Facebook comments, blog entries, Tweets, and emails flowed in. Sadly no facsimile this time however.
Anyway, I chucked a few up on the site for you to check out. Get in to it; it’s a good laugh. With regards to how we’ll proceed, we’re pretty happy to put this all behind us to be honest – they’ve taken up enough of our time. But it was fun.
I know they maintain, “there is nothing that could be considered plagiarism on the site”, and I could spend more time making screen shots of the text that I wrote on their website, but there’s no point. I’m done checking their website, I suggest you do the same.

The other day on Facebook some person recommended I become a fan of this site called Klub Retro, so I checked it out and noticed more than a few little similarities with Mr Vintage. As I continued to check out their content pages, I noticed that they’d copied our banners as well, and once I clicked through I realized that not only had they taken inspiration from our website, they had literally copied and pasted our copy from the website too! They're like us, but way more shit. They're designs are pretty amateur, but bless them for trying...
It’s pretty annoying that a company would just come along and blatantly steal so much from our website. We worked on that for ages and put a lot of work and time in to designing it, and for someone to come along and rip it off leaves us with a pretty shitty feeling in the stomach.
I’ve included a few screen shots to show you how much they’ve copied us…. But if you really want to help out, just email them (sales@klubretro.com) and tell them how strongly you disapprove of their blatant plagiarism. CC me in (jay (@) mrvintage.co.nz) and the best few emails will win free tees.
Wholesale/Corporate pages. Remarkably different.
Sizing pages. Ctrl + C follwed by Ctrl +V.
Customer Service Pages.
About Us. Same axe.
Blog. Their monkey is slightly different. See.

It’s down at 302B Great North Rd, Grey Lynn, Auckland.
We’re pretty excited that our new retail store is now FINALLY OPEN, it’s super classy, and we want all of you to come down and check it out too… so the first five people that come down and buy a t-shirt with a printed copy of this blog post will get a FREE T-SHIRT!
It’s been a long time coming moving from Parnell, and for anyone that turned up at the old Parnell Showroom looking for us, we send our deepest apologies. We’ve moved to 302B Great North Rd, and you can now come in for your pick-ups & exchanges or just for a blat on your credit card.
Great North Rd is quite a big road though, so if you have any confusion about how to get to us, this will help you find our store.
So come on down and check it out now. We put a lot of work in to it, so we’d love to hear what you guys think about it. Tell all your friends as well; they’ll no doubt think it’s great too.
