Shit NZ Mum's Say

Written by Jay on May 4th, 2012.      10 comments

With Mother's Day coming up, we thought it would be a good idea to make a video to celebrate Mums and all the eccentricitues. check it out. OH, and big ups to Willy for making it. He's a highly talented film director with small thighs. Let us know if you want his contact details. He'd prefer to field enquiries about his production rather than thighs, but he's down for whatever.

Mum’s are pretty awesome, and we think this year they deserve more than the scented candles, soaps and moisturisers that you get her most years. That’s why we’ve been working with artist Greg Straight on a collection of kiwiana inspired cushions drawing on some of his popular icons used in his limited edition fine art prints and images of Aotearoa.

These cushions are a new, higher quality fabric than our previous offering. The prints are now double sided, and we’ve sourced a new inner that will make your dreams far more peaceful than if you’d had cheese for dessert.

Greg Straight is an artist and graphic designer living in Auckland. He has worked with lots of clients over the past few years and his fine art prints are stocked nationwide in galleries & design stores. He has worked in the field of visual arts for over a decade now and has the flexibility of a number of key styles. Watch him on facebook.

Little Rascals Kids Range

Written by Jay on February 10th, 2012.      0 comments

Little kids wear t-shirts too – so they may as well be these ones; a range dedicated to the little dude in your house. They’re also impossible to stain, outgrow or look ugly in. Just joking, it’s almost a dead certainty that your kid will stain these and outgrow them – but they’ll look super cute whilst doing so. eat them all now!

Come in to the Shop!

Written by Jay on December 23rd, 2010.      0 comments

Come on down

Guaranteed Christmas Delivery cut off was yesterday. It was an intense day in the warehouse; really intense. But we got it all done (high stress = high performance), and if you ordered before 3pm – you should be sweet for Christmas.

If you still haven’t got all your Christmas shopping done - and you’re in Auckland - you should pop down to our showroom. We’ve got all sorts of stocking fillers besides the staple t-shirt; The NZ Artist Series, tea towels, cushions, Longest Drink Cup Sets & Height Charts, and a whole bowl of free Minties.

So come on down – 302b Great North Rd. BONUS. The store is open till 9pm tonight. It’s better than the mall; there are no jerks at our shop, and no douche car-parking wardens telling you where to park. We’ll be open tomorrow (24th) too, but only till 6pm.

Not in Auckland? Can’t make it to the showroom? We’re still sending orders out today – Rob’s out there printing like a madman – and while it’s not guaranteed shipping, you should still be sweet. Most of our orders have had next day delivery from shipping date; so it’s probably a pretty fair bet that you’ll still get your order in time if you make one today. Make one.

You should also – if you’re not already – follow our facebook and twitter pages. We’re doing a whole bunch of giveaways in store that we’ll be announcing via face and twit. Moist.

NZ Artist Series

Written by Jay on December 21st, 2010.      0 comments

This Christmas we released the Mr Vintage NZ Artist Series Range. The first range included the works of two artists; Shane Hansen and Brad Novak.

The Mr Vintage NZ Artist Series is a range of premium designs. We’ve collaborated with our favourite NZ Artists to showcase their works on the canvas of the t-shirt. The NZ Artist Series designs are strictly limited edition, with only 50 of each t-shirt produced. Each garment is individually numbered, carrying the artists’ signature.  The NZ Artist Series is packaged in custom made personalised wooden gift boxes. A lot of love went in to making this NZ Artist Series Range.

We're really happy with how it turned out. You should have a geez.

They're great presents for Christmas, so yeah.

The NZ Artist Series.

Shane Hansen Brad Novak

Shane Hansen: Shane Hansen likes a strong, clean line. He has drawn constantly for as long as he can remember, but has never indulged in intricate doodles dredged up from the dark recesses of the mind. Instead, his creations spring from a world of bold colours and optimistic clarity, a pop-art invitation to a feel-good New-Zealand celebration. http://shanehansen.co.nz/

Brad Novak: Born in Auckland in 1976 with Croatian heritage Brad Novak is a professional painter and printmaker represented by dealer galleries around New Zealand.  His work can be described as pop art with a strong NZ influence, reflecting the diverse iconography of Aotearoa. http://www.bradnovak.vc.net.nz/

Stationery Range

It’s seems like we're dropping shit all the time these days lol but we’ve got a new range in Whitcoulls. I still pinch myself when I see Mr Vintage stuff in Whitcoulls; it’s cool because Whitcoulls is a big time store, I think there’s even one in Timaru – I had a school trip there once and I remember a creepy man outside the Whitcoulls asking us “you feeling the cold here boys? I can make you warmer”... hence my warm affinity with the franchise.

We’ve expanded our range in a big way this time. Last week you might have sat there at your desk wishing that your Holden car branded mug had something cooler on it like a jandal or a tiki. We’ve pulled a few strings so that if you go down to Whitcoulls you can purchase yourself a Mr Vintage coffee mug that carries such an image. It just made sense. Same deal with the photo albums, good way to spice up your old wedding album – Mr Vintage photo album. And coasters, well you can rest your mug on there so it don’t stain the oak.

In the next range we’re going to make some male G-Thong underpants that are especially for tanning up so you look like a great sexy latin man. Hayden requested them; he’s already shaved his leg hair, as the sun wasn’t getting a glimpse of the flesh through the thick curls covering it. The G-Thong will have the longest drink in town on its head.

Had to make sure I spelt stationery right. Last time I spelt it stationary implying that the range was not moving. Luckily I made this super clever gag hoping that the stationery range isn’t in fact stationary lol. Anyway, check the new photo albums, coasters, note pads and mugs.

p.s. A bit late I know, but I’ve jut got on the lol buzz so I’m making up for lost time by trying to use lol at least 3 times each blog post. Just if you were wondering about the lolzfest back there.

You’ve probably seen it by now – but the Auckland City Mission have an awesome campaign running at the moment that we’re proud to be supporting.

The Auckland City Mission think it’s pretty stink how people in poverty suffer. They dedicate their lives to it. Simply txt 305 with your initials and your choice of FIRE, STEAM, OR WATER to melt the safe. then watch it at www.icemission.co.nz We’ve done it, and it’s wicked fun. The crafty cats over at www.MusicHy.pe have done it again. You might have seen their Mint Chicks USB they did a while back, which was sweet. Packaged on this nifty little cassette USB, we're lucky enough to have 2 to give away.

We've decided to make it easy for you, just buy one of these NZ Indie Mix Tape t-shirts that you would've bought anyway - and the first two to purchase them will get themselves a Mix Tape USB. If you missed out on winning one, you can just buy it here.

In a bid to out-indie Fran, two of my three flatmates are actually featured on this compilation. the other one has a grammy nomination. nbd. no big deal.

SFRQ MENS t-shirt SFRQ WOMENS t-shirt

Smokefreerockquest is something of an institution in New Zealand these days. Since 1989, the nationwide youth event has been helping young musicians realise their ability, and at the same time encourage their peers to support 100% NZ Music.

You only have to look at the list of successful bands that have been brought through the ‘rockquest system’ currently in the NZ Music scene. Check it out: Evermore, Die!Die!Die!, the Datsuns, Brooke Fraser, Anika Moa, Cut off your Hands, Flight of the Conchords, The Electric Confectionaires, Elemeno P, So So Modern, Midnight Youth, Bang!Bang!Eche! Steriogram, Lady Hawke, Minuit, Fat Freddys Drop, Aaradhna, Atlas, The Feelers, The Blackseeds, Nesian Mystic, Bic Runga, The Have, Fur Patrol, Liam Finn, Pine, King Kapisi, and The Checks. Impressive.

Famous

Steven Segal. The Divine Ponytail. D Dot Page.

You know you've made it when celebrities of the caliber of Steven Seagal and Diamond Dallas Page are photographed with some of your apparel. It's even more impressive when you realise that these celebrities are at the peak of their careers.

If you know Andy Shackleton, you know that he's in to his action movies. And you can't really be in to your action movies unless you have a deep appreciation for Steven Seagal and his entire works. So it was with great joy we learnt that Steve had been gifted a KNZB bag by our mate Ben. Everyone at Mr Vintage, well the guys here at least, have all been big wrestling fans at one point or another and we were just delighted to see old DDP still looking in tip-top shape. I love the Diamond Cutter.

Marmite and Chips Tattoo

Written by Jay on March 30th, 2010.      0 comments

One of the first tasks I like to get in to on a Monday morning is the website enquiries. While it can often be quite a menial task, the enquiry content can range from entertaining to frustrating. Today’s enquiries however brought with it a pleasant little surprise we’ve never had before. Here’s the email we got:

Subject: Marmite and Chips Print From: Kaylee Enquiry Date: 2010-03-28 22:11 Hiya, I see the marmite and chips print is the retired prints page. I was just wondering tho, I want to get a tattoo of it but can't copy and save the picture in full so any chance I can get a copy off you guys? :) Chur! Kaylee.
Now, while I see it as a huge compliment to Joe’s talent with a pen and computer, it’s pretty crazy. I mean, seriously, it’s not a bad design (above), but is that what you want to look at when you’re like 70… marmite n chips? I’m kind of hoping that she was drunk, seeing as her email was at 11:11pm on a Saturday night, but who knows. Anyway, here are some tattoos that are pretty shit-house.

Remuera Hard bro.
get some.
it's not gay, it's just shit.
The piece de resistance: a diddle, as it is done, with veins.
